Unemployment Insurance Application Assistance    

Community Legal Aid has started a project, using trained volunteers including lawyers and law students, to file claims for people not able to manage the process on their own. This information was compiled by Central West Justice Center staff attorney, Gina Plata-Nino.

FREE Assistance with Online Claims for Workers Affected by Coronavirus/COVID-19 

  • If you have you lost your job, had your hours reduced, or are you temporarily out of work because of the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, file Unemployment Insurance claim online by clicking Here

  • Do you need help filing your online claim because you do not have access to a computer or do not read English? The online claim form is only in English and does not work well with a smartphone or tablet.

  • For assistance with filing an online Unemployment Insurance claim, call 855-CLA-LEGAL 852-252-5342 OR apply online by clicking Here. Someone from CLA will contact you. 

For immigrants

  • You can apply for unemployment benefits so long as you have authorization to work in the United States. You do not need to be a U.S. citizen. You will have to provide documentation of your work authorization and Social Security number. Getting unemployment benefits does not count as a “public charge” for immigration benefits. If you are not sure whether you can apply for unemployment benefits, please call Community Legal Aid for information at 852-252-5342
